Los Angeles band Sons of Silver is set to deliver their debut full-length album, Runaway Emotions, in January 2025. This release features classic rock ‘n’ roll infused with apocalyptic post-punk fury, echoing the protest music of the sixties and seventies. The ten tracks offer a full-throttle rallying cry—guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards—to preserve our freedom and collective humanity in the divisive aftermath of the lockdown. The album draws from a range of musical influences, from British Invasion stalwarts like The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin to the new wave sounds of U2, The Clash, Radiohead and the New York Dolls.

“We are what we eat,” says bassist Adam Kury, the longtime Candlebox member who previously collaborated with vocalist Peter Argyropoulos in Last December and his solo project, Pete RG. Now, Adam joins Peter in this veritable supergroup alongside former Skillet guitarist Kevin Haaland, drummer Marc Slutsky—who has toured and recorded with artists like Adam Ant, Peter Murphy and Todd Rundgren—and keyboardist Brina Kabler, who also serves as the album’s engineer (and happens to be Peter’s wife, making the band a true family affair). American Songwriter has dubbed the band a “supergroup,” and it’s easy to hear why. New Noise Magazine notes, “They keep the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll alive.”

“The record is a warning: if we continue down this path, we’re doomed,” adds Peter. “But if you look at it from a different angle, you’ll see that we share more in common than we realize, even if we focus on what separates us. At its best, rock ‘n’ roll brings us together and celebrates what we have in common.”

Runaway Emotions is Sons of Silver’s first full-length release, following two EPs—2020’s Doomsday Noises (which featured three songs on the Billboard Active Rock chart) and 2022’s Ordinary Sex Appeal. The album will be released through the band’s own 4L Entertainment and distributed by Universal Music Group’s Bungalo label. Collectively, the band’s songs have garnered more than sixteen million views and streams. Self-produced by the group, the record was mixed by renowned English producer/engineer Tim Palmer, whose credits include Robert Plant, David Bowie, Tears for Fears, The Cure, Bon Jovi, Ozzy Osbourne, and U2.

“These guys epitomize the essence of classic alternative rock,” says Palmer about working with the band. “Their music is fueled by both power and raw emotion, with genuinely profound lyrics. Their album is a treasure trove of well-crafted, memorable songs, and I really enjoyed collaborating with them.”

“Tell Me This” opens with a winding Johnny Thunders-esque guitar solo, a Stones-like fury, and a lyrical nod to The Smiths, while “Baby Hang On” perfectly captures the band’s varied influences, opening with an Elvis Presley “uh-huh” before segueing into an Elvis Costello “Pump It Up” raver. The song was inspired by a Kevin Haaland guitar riff that delighted Argyropoulos’ now three-year-old son Julian—who is a big U2 fan and prefers to be called Bono. Julian can be heard at the close of the blues-rocking “Just Getting Started” (with its classic scatological lyric, “The bigger the deuce/the bigger the flush”) voicing his approval. “Running Out of Words” starts with drums and keyboards, delivering a chilling warning: “Running out of nerve/’Cause we’re running out of chances,” while the piano ballad “Friends” hearkens back to the band’s origins as an Americana outfit, channeling Tom Petty, Neil Young, and David Gray in its plea for connection and comfort amid imminent dissolution.

“For me, music is about capturing a spirit, an energy, a feeling,” explains Adam. “You can overlay any number of things that affect you personally onto an individual song by deriving your own meaning from it.”

The music of Sons of Silver has that universal appeal but is rooted in deeply personal emotions. “Rolling up our sleeves together/Rolling up prepared to fight,” echoes in “Running Out of Words.”

After a three-year hiatus from touring due to the lockdown, Sons of Silver—whose name is derived from the Greek translation of Argyropoulos—are ready to take these new songs on the road.

“When the pandemic hit, we decided to devote all our time to writing, which is where all these songs came from,” says Adam. “Now it’s time to play them live. We’re miners, not jammers. We’re always looking for something that excites us, and it usually happens quickly. It’s all about the creative chemistry of playing together live.”

The band played to capacity crowds on a summer 2024 tour run alongside Dogstar and a winter 2025 tour with Myles Kennedy and Tim Montana. “We decided to hold off on touring until we could really do it right,” adds Peter. “We plan on being on the road quite a bit now.”

Sons of Silver are ready to rock your world—and maybe even save it from destruction.
